Cowboys

Well the Boys' are having a GREAT Season 11-1 a franchise best after 12 games.

- Romo seems to break a Cowboy Record each time he steps on to the field.
- T.O. is playing better than he has in his whole career he is on record pace himself
- Jason Witten so clutch especially in the 2nd half last game
- The Big Uglies O-Line is playing better than anyone in the league at this time.
- The ( D ) is attacking and getting pressure and just generating turn overs. Great to see
- Coaching the coaches are coaching there butts off great game plans..

Here come the Lions hopefully there won't be a let down and if the Boys' need some bulletin board material may i remind you of the trashing that Jon Kitna did to a Seattle Radio Station last season before the playoff game. They are listed below

*"We didn't feel like their interior linebackers were very effective. We hit backs out of the backfield, checking the ball down. Usually, you'll check the ball down for five, six yards, and it was going for 10, 15, 20 yards sometimes on checkdowns."

*"They're not going to get a lot of pressure on the quarterback. When they get pressure on the quarterback, it's going to be when the quarterback is in a seven-step mode and waiting on things downfield."

*"There were some times that we were watching on film before we played Dallas that we really felt like No. 56, some times I don’t know that he knew where he was at."

*"We definitely felt like Terence Newman was the best corner that they had, so we knew we needed to be careful with him. But even with him, I mean, he's not Marcus Trufant in my opinion. He doesn't have that kind of ability. It wasn't like you were scared to throw at him, I guess."

Listen to the Kitna comments here.

Mavericks.

Well they are having a tough time the past few weeks losing 4 out of the last 6 games. They aren't playing with much confidence right now. Devin Harris is not playing at the level he was starting the year he is such an important part of this team he must bring it night in and night out for the Mavs to have a shot at this thing. Averie had resorted back to the small lineup and putting Damp in to start games even with the group that worked for 67 wins last season they just aren't playing well right now..

They try to regroup tonight in Chi-town when they take on the Bulls.

Mavs lose 111-107 to the Pacers

Quotes after the game

Avery Johnson

“(On his ejection) There’s nothing really to talk about, just had a difference of opinion. In that case, you’re never right. He thought I was wrong and that was that. (On Jamaal Tinsley) He was backing in there. We just couldn’t get him caught down below. We just have to snap out of this funk we’re in. (On their free throw shooting) Yes, but we’re getting there pretty good. We missed two or three (near the end). Bass is driving hard. (On the first half) We weren’t playing good in the first half.”

Devin Harris

“They got a lot of quality rebounds that gave them a lot of good second shots at the basket. When it came down to the end of the game, they were able to get to the free throw line a lot and we kind of sputtered. The first quarter was a struggle and it’s been a struggle for us all year. We need to fix it, definitely and we need to fix it quick. It’s going to be definitely harder on the road to come back from early deficits. Where as at home it’s easier because you have your crowd behind you. The second quarter has been our best quarter all year. The third quarter we felt like we had a great quarter that got us back in the game, but in the fourth quarter, I think we just ran out of gas. (On his match up with Tinsley) It wasn’t anything personal. It was just tough competition. He’s a tough competitor, a touch player, he had it going all night. We tried to make him take more shots than usual. Our goal was to have him be a shooter tonight not a passer. And you look at the stat sheet, he was 10-24 so we got what we wanted, but credit them. They played well and got the victory.”

Jason Terry

“(on behind early in games) We are making it tough on ourselves, the last three games. It takes a lot out of you to have to come back like that. You have to use up a lot of energy. Tonight they just out played us. They got to more loose balls. They out rebounded us, out hustled us. We were never able to seize control of the game and they forced us to play catch up all night long.”

Mavs improve to 9-2

Another gutty performance tonight down Houston way for the Dallas Mavericks who stole a victory away from the Rockets winning 100-94. They trailed most of the game and looked like they were drained from there performance last night against the Raptors but once again the Mavs found away to win. Stackhouse was clutch the last minute and half hitting clutch free throws. Dirk is struuugling at the free thow line only shooting 2-5 tonight which is not common for him and he knows it..

We will back tomorrow with more notes

Dirk

Has anyone noticed although Dirk hasn't played up to the MVP he was last year until tonight against the Raptors. But the way he is taking the ball to the hole he is driving more this year than ever and he is successful at it going either way left hand right hand he is so tall that 2 steps cover so much ground if tonight are a sign of things to come things look good. His mid range game, drive game, long ball were all on in the 2nd half lets hope it will carry over. M-V-P

What a Game.. Mavs Win Mavs Win

The reigning MVP was BIG tonight scoring 32 points grabbing 7 boards but he was clutch late in the 3rd he hit 4 straight 3-pointers. Mavs win 105-99 down 24 with 5:30 to go in the 2nd quarter.

Notes:

-Dirk was big tonight 32pts 7rebs 1ast 1blk

-Devin Harris was a great spark again using his speed and solid defense. Scored 19pts

-Trenton Hassell did a works men job late in the 1st half he only had 6pts but his defense was huge.

-Stackhouse I am starting to wonder if his knees might need some rest his shot is flat he was o'fer again tonight going 0-6 missed 2 free throws. Avery might need to shut him down he will need to be big the remainder of the season.

-Mo Ager might need to head on down to the D-league and join rookie Nick Fazekas. Ager got the quick yank cause he couldn't keep his man in front of him. 3min 2 pts 2 fouls not many minutes but he didn't warrant any more.

-Josh Howard usually the Mavs most consistent player only took 9 shots. Josh needs to get more looks than that he finished with 15pts and lead the team with 9 boards. I am sure he will rebound nicely tomorrow night when they head to Houston to take on the Rockets with T-Mac expecting to play.

Another Raptors game against the Mavs that they lead by 24 and end up losing amazing. A very fun game to watch.

Mavericks Vs. Raptors 7:30pm FSNSW

Mavs welcome the Toronto Raptors with Dallas' own Chris Bosh into the AAC tonight the last 4 games these two teams have played have either gone to overtime or won on the last second shot. Last year in Toronto Josh Howard hit a layup with only seconds to go. 2 years ago at the AAC the Mavs had to overcome a 20point deficit to take the game into overtime. Tonight is going to be a fun game Toronto is young and athletic we all know what those types of teams do to the Mavs.

Cowboys Report Card Vs. Redskins

Calvin Watkins of dallasnews.com Report Card

RUN OFFENSE

C
The Cowboys rushed for a season-low 72 yards and averaged 2.9 yards per carry. They couldn't run the clock out down the stretch, which allowed Washington one more crack at the end zone. Julius Jones had his second-lowest output of the season with 27 yards on nine carries.

We agree with the C grade the running game was running in mud.
PASS OFFENSE

B
Tony Romo was hit a few times and sacked once, but his QB rating was 124.1. Romo completed passes to six receivers. Terrell Owens had 173 receiving yards with four TDs. Center Andre Gurode had three bad snaps, one that led to Romo throwing a jump ball to Owens that resulted in an interception.

B come on man 4 td passes completed passes to 6 receivers Our Grade A-
RUN DEFENSE

A
Washington had the eighth-best run offense in the NFL and was held to 62 yards rushing on 3.6 yards per carry. Clinton Portis, second in the NFC in rushing, wasn't a factor. He had 36 yards rushing on 12 carries. Portis' longest run was for six yards. Dallas did a great job at attacking ball carriers.

A agreed Shutting down Portis was huge.
PASS DEFENSE

C
Jason Campbell showed off his strong arm by throwing for 348 yards. Dallas had numerous pressures on him, including a DeMarcus Ware sack. Chris Cooley's 19-yard TD catch in the first quarter was because of poor coverage. Terence Newman's interception was big with 1:39 left.

C maybe a C- here there wasn't enough pass rush Campbell had all day to pick apart the secondary.
SPECIAL TEAMS

D
Nick Folk missed a 51-yarder, and the return team allowed 145 yards in kickoff return yardage. Antwaan Randle El's 20-yard punt return in the fourth gave Washington great field position late in the game. Rock Cartwright had a 36-yard kickoff return to set up a go-ahead field goal to close the half.

D yes... SPecial Teams needs help. They are giving up way to good of opening drive field position.
COACHING

B-
The coaches did a good job of adjusting to the Redskins' running schemes and got Owens into the flow of the offense. Dallas exploited the injury-riddled secondary with smart play calling. The running game hasn't rushed for more than 100 yards the last two weeks.

B- we would say A- Coach Wade just won 3 yes THREE games against the NFC East in consecutive weeks.

Shawn Springs explains how the Cowboys beat them.

Cowboys Win... 28-23

The Dallas Cowboys managed to pull out a victory against the hated Washington Redskins 28-23.

-Terrell Owens was huge having 8rec 173yds and 4TDs

-Tony Romo was to his normal Jedi-self going 22-32 293yds and 4TDs and chasing high snap after high snap Andre Gurode might need to work on his shotgun snapping.

-The running game wasn't great but the Skins' defense was solid against the run. MB3 had some tough runs in the 4th qtr

-Roy Roy Roy yet another Tight End had a monster game (Cooley 8rec 89yds 1TD) against his coverage I like Roy so I won't pile on like everyone else will he is after all 9-1 just like the rest of the team.

-The D in general was sloppy letting Jason Campbell go for career high numbers 33-54 348yds 2TDs 1INT

-The game overall just had a strange feel to it in the first half felt like the Buffalo game. Romo and Terrell threw the team on there back and brought home there 9th victory and there 4th in a row and 3 in a row against the NFC East impressive fellas very impressive.

- Santana Moss loves to play against the Cowboys he caught nine passes for 121 yards and a touchdown.

Mavs vs. Spurs Highlights

VIDEO

Tim Duncan on the Mavs "We were happy to see them go in the first round."

Great article from Marc Stein of ESPN.com

DALLAS -- They've been dissed all over the NBA Nation. Dissed and dismissed as a team that has blown its best shot to win a championship.

The Dallas Mavericks?

The dissing has reached the point where the only reverence they seemingly generate any more, strangely, comes from a small group of prominent Texans who reside some 250 miles to the south.

The San Antonio Spurs would certainly prefer not to be the ones defending Dallas, but they couldn't help it Thursday night. They couldn't really deny that a 105-92 defeat to their longstanding rivals only reinforced the Mavs' status as the biggest matchup problem San Antonio has.

After watching Devin Harris shadow Tony Parker like no one else does and seeing Josh Howard (and others) punish the Spurs with his quickness -- before we even get to the trouble Dirk Nowitzki typically gave the visitors -- you dropped your suspicions that this is just PC talk. You tend to believe it when Tim Duncan says that San Antonio's high regard for Dallas hasn't been diminished one iota in the wake of the Mavs' historic first-round ouster by Golden State in the 2007 playoffs.

"No," Duncan said as the crowd around his locker began to disperse, asked if he's noticed the growing consensus that the Mavs have dipped in stature.

"We were happy to see them go in the first round."

Happy because Dallas, in San Antonio's estimation, is a team built to beat the Spurs. It's true that the platitudes tend to overflow when these teams get together because of the close bond between Gregg Popovich and his old point guard Avery Johnson, but don't mistake all of their back-and-forth praise for clichéd respect. The Spurs really do regard Johnson's Mavs as their toughest out in the West.

I know, I know: There's something very confusing about touting the Mavs so strongly when they can be so fresh and quick against the team that has won three titles in the past five seasons and so creaky and unathletic against Golden State. Yet we saw it again in the space of a week. Dallas were shaky victors at best last Thursday in winning their first rematch with the Warriors -- even with Golden State missing suspended Mavs killer Stephen Jackson -- and then looked about as sharp as you can in November with the Spurs in town for another TNT game.

How sharp? Try eight steals in the first half alone with their faster hands, triggering runs of 17-1 and 11-0 that ultimately enabled Dallas to take a 19-point lead into halftime. Then in the fourth quarter, after Nowitzki was finally starting to look more like his MVP self for one of the first times this season, San Antonio overplayed him, refusing to let Nowitzki (16 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four blocks) beat them but thereby opening up the fourth quarter for a clinching 14-point flurry from Harris.

You'll never see a ton of urgency from the savvy Spurs before Thanksgiving, true, but Dallas' edge in this one wasn't mere intensity or desire. Nor was it Pop's famed reluctance to show his best defensive schemes to a team he expects to see in the playoffs, as illustrated on this night by Duncan guarding Nowitzki far more than he normally does.

The Spurs' problems start with Nowitzki's ability to shoot over smaller defenders or out-quick San Antonio's bigger ones. The Mavs likewise have DeSagana Diop and a healed-from-surgery Erick Dampier to throw at Duncan and whoever is playing alongside Duncan up front, since San Antonio still prefers to keep two traditionally sized big men on the floor together. They also have a new high-octane bench tandem (Jason Terry and Jerry Stackhouse) to counter Manu Ginobili and, perhaps most crucially, the rare ability to put someone on Parker from the same speed class.

Of course, even with all those attributes, it's worth remembering that the Mavs needed OT in their Game 7 breakthrough to finally win a series against the Spurs, who are so consistently good that they win as often as Dallas does in the head-to-head matchup that poses the biggest threat. But there's one more element of comfort for the Mavs here: "We definitely respect San Antonio," Stackhouse says, "but [not] as much as y'all do."

Right. Although their mental state will be routinely questioned until they win a championship of their own, confidence against the Spurs is the least of the Mavs' problems after Dallas famously won that Game 7 in San Antonio just 16 months ago.

The Mavs' problem, as described by Charles Barkley in Wednesday's Dallas Morning News, is that "they match up well with the Spurs but not with other teams." Golden State and, of greater concern, Phoenix come to mind.

"At both ends of the court, they're the most complete team in the league right now," Popovich insisted. "I just think it's hard to win a championship. [The Mavs have] learned that lesson as fully as anybody's ever learned it.

"They could have done it for the last two years. It just didn't work out. But just because it didn't happen doesn't mean that they're not the team that people thought they were."

Mavs Win!!

Mavs beat the Spurs tonight 105-92

Devin Harris took over the 4th qtr scoring 14 of his 18 points.
Dirk was solid throughout the game
J-Ho led all Mavs scoring 23 points

Manu was great for the spurs but it wasn't enough
Timmy had a rough first half but finished strong scoring 24.
Tony Parker had a horrible shooting night he went 1-11 only scoring 7 points

Both of these teams are really good and tonight just proves that the Mavs can play with the best in the league. For all those fair weather fans that was upset in the offseason for lack of moves. Just because the Mavs ran in the NBA's version of the Colorado Rockies last season doesn't mean they can't play they can compete with the best of them. Although the season is still very young the Mavs have some really good wins. More tomorrow folks.

Stars News

The Stars front office right now is a mess they have fired GM Doug Armstrong and today team president Jim Lites is stepping down. Lites is stepping down as president of the Stars, a decision he said was mutual with owner Tom Hicks. Lites will take an expanded role in the Hicks Sports Group. The Stars have named Jeff Cogen as the new team president. Cogen, the president of the Rangers, got his start in Dallas when Lites hired him to be the vice president of marketing and promotions with the Stars in 1993. He was eventually promoted to the position of Rangers president.

Well don't Stars fans fell all better now knowing that the Rangers president is now with the Stars?

Tom Hicks might be one hell of a business man but he has proven time after time he doesn't know squat about owning a sports team. Sell Tom please!!!!

Texas Rangers Off-Season

Evan Grant of DMN had this today.

The Rangers are taking a proactive approach to their pursuit of free agent center fielder Torii Hunter.

And they wouldn't mind reconciling with Kenny Rogers, either.

A club source confirmed that team officials dined with Hunter and his representative, Larry Reynolds, on Monday. Hunter, who lives in Prosper, met with the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. Neither Hunter nor Reynolds could be reached for comment Tuesday.

Tuesday was the first day that teams could start talking about the financial parameters of deals with free agents. General manager Jon Daniels declined to discuss the state of talks with Hunter but did acknowledge the team might have interest in bringing Rogers back for a fourth stint.

"Under the right circumstances, I'm open to it," Daniels said.

ALSO:The Rangers released the rest of their 2008 schedule Tuesday. They released the home schedule a month ago.

The Rangers will open at Seattle (March 31-April 2) and Los Angeles (April 4-6). The home opener is April 8 vs. Baltimore. The interleague schedule includes trips to Washington, New York and Houston. Home interleague opponents are Houston (May 16-18), Atlanta (June 17-19) and Philadelphia (June 27-29). It will be the Phillies' first trip to Arlington.

The biggest tweak to the schedule is the elimination of 7:35 p.m. starts. The club had experimented with later start times last summer in an effort to increase attendance. The club saw no real positive impact from the change, and several surveys of fans suggested they preferred the 7:05 start time.

The Rangers will play 15 home day games in 2008, a reduction by one from the 2007 schedule.

The Mavs last night got a good win against the 76ers, they struggled in the first half going in at halftime 50-43 but started the 2nd half on a 16-2 run led by Jason Terry. They welcomed back Erick Dampier who looked solid for making his first appearance he had some good boards and he is such a big body and sets the best screens on the team he was missed more than some would think.

Dirk was 2 assist short of getting his first triple double he finished with 21pts 12reb 8ast he struggled in the first half but once again ended up with great numbers.

Avery had a starting five of Diop, Dirk, Jones, Howard, Harris.

Eddie Jones reinjured his ankle and said he will be shutting it down for 2 weeks. “It’s the smart thing to do,” Jones said. “It’s still not there. I’ll shut it down for a week and see where it’s at. He wants me to get out there healthy.”

Breaking News: Dallas Stars Fire GM Doug Armstrong

DMN is reporting that the Stars have fired General Manager Doug Armstrong.

The Dallas Stars on Tuesday fired general manager Doug Armstrong.

"As an owner I have to be responsible for one person in hockey operations and that is the general manager of the team," said owner Tom Hicks, who made the announcement. "I thought that the team needed a change in direction. I know that change can be healthy and it was my determination that this move needed to be made. I want the Dallas Stars to return to being one of the elite teams in the league."

Armstrong was in his sixth season as GM. His contract was set to expire at the conclusion of the 2010-11 season.

"Doug has been a great member of this organization for 17 years and has been a big part of the success we have had here in Dallas, starting under Bob Gainey and winning seven division titles, two Presidents’ Trophies, making two consecutive Stanley Cup Finals appearances and winning the Stanley Cup in 1999," Hicks said.

Hicks said that the team will announce interim positions to run the Stars' hockey operations department in the near future.

Cowboys playing like Super Bowl losers?

<---- According to this guy they are.

Andrew Perloff SI.com

What does the Cowboys' ascension to the top of the NFC really mean? They're No. 1 in a group of pretenders. Their substandard conference affiliation means an inflated regular-season record and, at best, a reserved spot on the sacrificial altar come Feb. 3.

Look at today's win over the Giants? This was supposed to a statement game, but it proves nothing. New York had one victory over a winning team this season, and that was over a Redskins team that is sliding into oblivion. The Giants have to stop a real offense just once before they are part of a serious contender conversation.

Dallas' playoff path to Super Bowl XLII will be paved with mediocrity. The Packers are a fluky 8-1. How many jump balls can Green Bay's WRs come down with? The Lions are 6-3 and will probably end up 8-8. The four teams in the NFC South are barely worth mentioning. And the NFC West is even worse.

The Cowboys haven't distinguished themselves in three games against the AFC this season. Throw out their win against the irrelevant Dolphins. Dallas was outplayed by Buffalo in that last-second Monday night win. And despite Terrell Owens' postgame claims, they didn't show me any reason to believe they could beat the Patriots in a rematch of their 48-27 loss in Week 6.

The ‘Boys are a very good team. Tony Romo is peforming up to his gaudy contract and celebrity girlfriend, T.O. is playing at a Hall of Fame level and the running game is solid. But Dallas is like Farmer Ted in Sixteen Candles ... the king of the geeks. A barracuda in a pool full of NFC guppies. Problem is, the Cowboys will face a great white shark if they reach the Super Bowl.

Everyone in Dallas should be proud of the upcoming trip to Glendale, Ariz., ... and the inevitable loss, followed by the offseason drama (probably Owens-related) and the 2008 Super Bowl loser's jinx collapse.

Devin Harris expected to play tonight.

Devin Harris practiced with the Mavericks on Monday after missing time because of a death in the family. He is still slowed somewhat by a left thigh contusion, but is expected to start in Tuesday's game.

Cowboys vs. Redskins Week 11

Cowboys look to improve on there 8-1 record this Sunday when the Washington Redskins come to town 3:15pm Fox game. The Skins are coming in after a lose to Philly last Sunday 33-25.

Injury information.

Safety Sean Taylor will is out indefinitely after spraining his right knee.

James Thrash the 1st Skins Wide Receiver to have a Touchdown Catch this season is likely out. He suffered a high ankle sprain against the Eagles.

Santana Moss inactive against Philadelphia because of a bruised heel, underwent an MRI exam that revealed no further damage and is expected to resume running later in the week and play against the Cowboys.

Much more to come on another rivalry game.

Dallas Mavericks Mix - This is Why I'm Hot

Injuries

Mavericks: Devean George (left foot) and Erick Dampier (right shoulder) are out; Eddie Jones (right leg) is day-to-day.

Sixers: None.

Dampier is getting close to returning

Art Garcia of mavs.com had this today.

Close is the word for Erick Dampier and Eddie Jones. How close is anybody’s guess, but don’t be surprised to see one or both on the court this week. The Mavericks start a four-game homestand with Philadelphia tomorrow before welcoming defending champ San Antonio on Thursday.

Dampier and Jones both went through practice today. Though they got through the workout, they’re noncommittal on their returns.

“Practice started off feeling good, all of a sudden it starts bothering me,” said Jones, who’s nursing a sore right leg. “Today I was trying to see how much of the pain I can take.”

Dampier, coming off shoulder surgery, was recently cleared for full contact, but called today his first complete practice.

“Conditioning is not what it should be, but I’m sure over the next couple of weeks it will get to that point as I continue to condition on the court and on the treadmill,” he said. “Just getting back in the flow of things, being out for a couple of months, I haven’t really picked up a ball. Eager to get back to it. Just have to try to work my way into some kind of conditioning.”

Though there is no rush to get either back, this would be a good time, especially against the Spurs. Jones would be part of the mix chasing around Manu Ginobili, while Dampier would come in handy banging against Tim Duncan.

The only member of the team not practicing right now is Devean George. Eventually, Avery Johnson is going to have his 15 guys. How is he holding up waiting?

“I wouldn’t call it anxious, but it’ll be nice to see at some point during the season whether it’s for one game, 10 games or 21 games, it’ll be nice to have our whole team together,” Johnson said. “But, hey, that’s part of the whole NBA season. If you would ask me would I prefer to be really whole later on down the line, yes, but at the same time we’d like to see it whenever we can.”

Cowboys Highlights..

Tony Romo

Terrell Owens

NFL GameDay: Cowboys vs. Giants Highlights

Dallas 31 N.Y. Giants 20 Box Score

Romo & Owens Lead Cowboys Past Giants

Cowboys Win!!!

Calvin Watkins' Dallas Cowboys Week 10 report card from DMN

RUN OFFENSE

B
Julius Jones didn't have a lot of yards, 48 on 11 carries, but his 4.4 yards per carry was impressive. His first carry of the day was for 20 yards, and his second run was for 8 more. The offensive line was physical. Marion Barber had 26 yards in the fourth quarter.
PASS OFFENSE

A
The offensive line gave Tony Romo time to throw the ball down field. Romo also used his legs to move around the pocket. Romo had a quarterback rating of 123.1 and receivers Terrell Owens (125 yards and two TDs) and Patrick Crayton (66 yards and one TD) made clutch plays.
RUN DEFENSE

C+
Dallas allowed more than 100 yards rushing for the second time in three weeks. Giants RB Brandon Jacobs rushed 23 times for 95 yards. With the game out of reach, the Giants had to pass more, but they had established the running game and that was a concern for the Cowboys.
PASS DEFENSE

B
Giants TE Jeremy Shockey caught 12 passes as S Roy Williams struggled in coverage. CBs Terence Newman, Jacques Reeves and Anthony Henry played well and FS Ken Hamlin had an interception. Giants WR Plaxico Burress was held to four catches. The defense had five sacks.
SPECIAL TEAMS

C
There were no touchbacks from Nick Folk, and most of his six kickoffs were short. Miles Austin averaged 19.7 yards in kickoff returns. P Mat McBriar had his lowest gross average of the season, 35.8, but he had one inside the 20. The Giants had 10 yards in returns.
COACHING

B
Coaches made great adjustments in the second half. A squib kick near the end of the first half was questionable, because it contributed to a tying field goal. It was another good game plan to get the ball to Owens. And it was good to give Tank Johnson a number of snaps in his debut.

One on One with Dirk

Man hands Gina Miller interviews Dirk Nowitzki.

Not the best sound quality but what else do you expect from such a small TV station like CBS 11?

Mavericks @ Trail Blasers 9pm Ch 21

Mavs come into tonights game at (4-1) 0.5 games behind the Spurs and Rockets. They will be without Devin Harris again tonight. David Moore DMN has this on the situation. Point guard Devin Harris has already missed two games this season because of injury. He's about to miss a third. Harris left the team immediately after Friday's practice for personal reasons. He will join the team back in Dallas once it returns from this brief, two-game road trip and is expected to play Tuesday against Philadelphia. Harris' absence means J.J. Barea will likely pick up his fourth start of the young season. Barea started the two previous games that Harris missed and replaced the injured Eddie Jones in the lineup Thursday night against Golden State. Barea was not effective in that game and was pulled at the start of the second half for Jason Terry.

Brandon Bass

The Mavericks love Brandon Bass and they should they haven't had a player of his make up in sometime if ever.
Brandon Bass article

Injuries for both teams tonight.

Mavericks: Erick Dampier (right shoulder) and Devean George (left foot stress reaction) are out. Eddie Jones (sore right leg) is day-to-day but hopes to play.

Blazers: Greg Oden (knee), Josh McRoberts (left ankle) and Darius Miles (right knee) are out. James Jones (left knee) is day-to-day.

Mavs vs Warriors Tonight 9:30 TNT

Art Garcia from mavs.com reports:
Four horsemen are game-time

The game-time list is pretty lengthy for tonight’s Golden State matchup. Decisions have yet to be officially made on Josh Howard, Eddie Jones, Brandon Bass and Devin Harris, but all four just got off the court here at Oracle Arena without any problems.

“Everybody for he most part when through shootaround and we’ll see how they feel come game time,” Avery Johnson said.

Of the group, Harris and Bass are the most likely to play. Both went through practice yesterday.

Little Ball of Hate Jen Engel Ft. Worth Star Telegram
Has this story about Reggie Miller thinks Dirk is the man.

Our Dallas Mavericks return to what basically amounts to a crime scene this evening.

Oakland. For a game against Golden State.

It was less than six months ago that a timid, bordering on gutless, team impersonated what had until then been a pretty intimidating group under Coach Avery. This ended with a humiliating first-round loss to Nellie and his Warriors.

Of course, this mother of all choke jobs has led to all kinds of knee jerking, overreacting and downright lunacy from a fringe contingent of Mavs observers who no longer believe Dirk is The Man. Or capable of being The Man.

You know The Man, the player who demands the ball be in his hands for The Shot, who plays his best in The Game, who leads his team to The Ring.

So is it time to give up on Dirk? Or does he have The Man in him?

TNT analyst Reggie Miller believes he does, and Miller would know, considering he had that "It" factor when he played for Indy.

"I know Dirk has it. You don't win MVP if you don't have it," Miller said. "So if you are asking me: 'Does he have it?' Yes. Now, does he have it when the lights and cameras are on, in the biggest moments? That is yet to be determined."

This became a big question since Golden State followed closely on the heels of Miami. Two playoffs. Two very different failures. Both qualify as big-time chokes.

Dirk struggled in both. He looked very un-The-Man-ish in both.

"He does have it," Miller insisted. "But I don't think he thinks that he has it."

And before anybody chimes in with any "What's he going to say? He's a former player" garbage. Let's remember this is TNT, where brutally honest is a résumé requirement.

Starting with Sir Charles.

He and Reggie, and really everybody on TNT's crew, have skewered Dallas at one point or another -- for being soft, for having Mark Cuban, for anything and everything.

So, if Reggie thought for a second that Dirk was incapable of winning a championship for Dallas, he'd say so. And loudly. And often. And did I mention loudly because, well, he has to be heard over Charles.

Instead, "no" was his response to any and all Kobe-to-Dallas talk.

He quickly noted how silly he considers Maverick Kobe rumors because (1) There is no way in Hades LA trades him to a West team; and (2) If Lakers brass came down with a case of stupid and traded West, look for them to want Dirk and Josh and a big man.

And Reggie does not see why the Mavs would do this.

"They are right there. They are knocking on the door," he said. "So why make wholesale changes for a guy you'd have to give up everything but the kitchen sink for?"

The why is simple. Many have lost faith that this Mavs team, as currently comprised, is capable of winning a championship. Especially with Dirk playing The Man. Especially in the playoffs.

"I always tend to worry about Dallas in the postseason," Miller said. "What will their psyche be like? Come April and May, are they mentally strong enough? Their psyche has been bruised a little bit."

He thinks they will be OK because they have Dirk.

He thinks Dirk is The Man.

I think you should listen to Miller because it takes one to know one.

Behind Enemy Lines: Giants

This week we look at the New York Giants another divisional game and the so called game of the week. Or is that just because the Pats aren't playing? Here is what the Giants are saying so far this week..

BIG BLUE: WITTEN WON’T BEAT US THIS TIME
November 8, 2007 -- Two months and a six-game winning streak later, Antonio Pierce still groans at the mention of Cowboys tight end Jason Witten.

Asked to describe the Giants' defensive effort - if you can call it that - against Witten in a 45-35 loss in the season opener, Pierce responded with a sour face yesterday.

“It was like a bad dream," he said.

Pierce and the rest of the Giants defense expect a much more restful sleep Sunday night after facing Witten and the 7-1 Cowboys at Giants Stadium in a matchup of the NFC East's top two teams.

Along with several other Giants defenders, Pierce all but vowed that the three-time Pro Bowl tight end would not repeat his career-best performance that September night at Texas Stadium.

Witten hauled in six passes for 116 yards and a touchdown with five of the six catches resulting in a first down, but the statistics only tell part of the story. Witten was uncovered on virtually every route he ran.

Witten was so untouched that Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo could have thrown to him for big yardage any time he felt like it. Granted, the Giants had their hands full with Terrell Owens and the rest of Dallas' offense, but not enough to excuse Witten repeatedly running free over the deep middle.

“We didn't pay enough attention to one of their most valuable weapons," weak-side linebacker Kawika Mitchell said. “You just can't let a guy like that get open. We didn't get physical with him."

The Giants had no shortage of explanations for the Witten debacle.

Not only were they adjusting to a new defensive coordinator and new scheme, but converted defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka also was making his first NFL start at strong-side linebacker, the position responsible for the tight end in most defensive packages.

“A lot of it was zone drops that we didn't get deep enough on and he got behind us," cornerback R.W. McQuarters said. “He's going to get his catches, but what we can't allow is for him to get behind us like that."

The Giants also had minimal pressure on Romo, mustering one sack. That's where coach Tom Coughlin places most of the blame for Witten's big night.

“You definitely have to have some pressure on the quarterback," Coughlin said yesterday about Witten. “That is where it starts."

The Giants certainly have stepped it up in that category, heading into the rematch with 30 sacks and a No. 1 league ranking in sacks per pass play that has fueled their 6-2 turnaround.

Free safety Gibril Wilson said better pressure on Romo and more attention to detail, specifically, Witten, should produce much more acceptable results Sunday.

“We're going to know where No. 82 (Witten) is at all times," Wilson said. “We're going to have some people looking after him, I promise you that."

BURRESS LIGHTS UP PRACTICE
November 8, 2007 -- There was an unusual reaction yesterday out at practice as Plaxico Burress hit the field for the first time in seven weeks.

"It was so funny, the first ball I caught in practice all my teammates started clapping," Burress said. "I guess they got a big kick out of that."

It was a sight the Giants haven't seen since the second week of the season. Burress on Sept. 16 against the Packers aggravated a severely sprained right injury that first surfaced early in training camp.

Time off for the bye week resulted in a move forward for Burress, who has not missed a game this season.

Previously he was kept out of practice in order to reduce the swelling and soreness in his ankle. Coming off the break, he was able to take part in all the individual and team drills and worked his way into a good number of plays with the first-team offense.

"I was mixing it up, going in and out, running some of the plays I thought were important for me to be in; some of the plays we'll be running this week," said Burress, who has 37 catches for 564 yards and eight touchdowns.

"It feels about the same. It's getting a little stronger," he said. "It can be nothing but positive, the more reps I can go out and get it will be more beneficial to myself and Eli [Manning]."

JACOBS’ TASK: RUN ’EM OVER
November 8, 2007 -- THERE was a Bring on the Cowboys feel to the Giants yesterday on a day when Plaxico Burress and his barking ankle returned to practice on a limited basis.

“The first ball I caught in practice, all my teammates started clapping," Burress said, and smiled.

Bring on the Cowboys, indeed.

“I'm not really worrying about their players and what their players can do and what they can do," running back Brandon Jacobs said. “I'm only worrying about our team and what we're going to be able to do, 'cause no one stops us, we stop ourselves. As long as we don't do that, we got a pretty good chance of winning this game."

Bring on Brandon Jacobs.

Because if the Giants plan on beating the Cowboys and laying claim to Beast of the NFC East, they must not count on Eli Manning surviving a shootout with gunslinger Tony Romo.

They must give the damn ball to Jacobs, because it sure looks as if the beast is yet to come.

It is time for Jacobs, the NFC's Offensive Player of the Month, to be Mr. November.

Where once this was Tiki Barber's favorite time of year, it is on the 264-pound Jacobs to run the Giants over the Cowboys and the possibility of another second-half collapse.

This is the time for the real Giants - and the real Giant - to please stand up.

“Tiki's gone, and his name still lives here," Jacobs said, “but we're not here to replace him. We're here to do our thing. We're 6-2, that kind of talk should be gone."

It's gone because Jacobs led the NFL with 424 rushing yards in October and has three 100-yard games in his last four outings and the knee he sprained in the first half of the opener against the Cowboys is rested following the bye and no longer bothers him.

“I feel good; I'm back 100 percent," Jacobs said.

The Giants are fourth in the NFL in time of possession and the best way to stop Romo and Terrell Owens and Jason Witten and Marion Barber is to keep them off the field.

“I think our defense is playing good enough now, I don't think we're gonna have any problems," Jacobs said.

Dallas (3-1) at Golden State (0-4) 9:30pm TNT

The Mavs head into tonights game a little banged up with Devin Harris a game time decision along with Brandon Bass and Josh Howard. The Warriors have yet to taste victory this season and although the Mavericks are saying all the right things Jerry Stackhouse had this to say “They were the Colorado Rockies,” “They got on a roll at the end of the season and won a bunch of games to get in the playoffs, and probably beat some teams they shouldn’t have beat.

“It eventually caught up with them in the Big Dance. But a hot team is a hot team, and you’ve got to understand that. Regardless of conventional or unconventional [style], they have NBA players. Any given night. In our case, four nights.”

"We all still have a bitter taste in our mouths," Dirk Nowitzki told the team's official Web site. "But we understand that whatever we do now it doesn't take back what happened in May."

Golden State will be without knuckle head and team captian Stephen Jackson who is still serving a suspension he got for a felony count of criminal recklessness for firing a gun outside an Indiana strip club last fall, when he was with the Pacers.

Mavs Rockets Video Recap
Box Score

Jet was huge last night against the Houston Rockets. With Devin Harris out due to a thigh injury he got in the Atlanta game, Brandon Bass was out with a ankle injury and Dirk and Josh Howard in foul trouble. Mr. Terry stepped his game and carried the team in the late stages of the 3rd and early in the 4th quarter. Finishing the game with 31 points IMO he loves coming off the bench and just letting fly a role he relished in college while at Arizona leading the Wildcats to a NCAA Championship in 1997. Desagana Diop held down the 5 spot for the Mavs by playing 40 minutes getting 10 points 13 boards 4 blocks and NO FOULS that was huge for a guy playing one of the top 3 centers in the league to make it the whole game with no fouls nice job Gana.. It was a good game for the swing men by rotation although T-Mac got 35 points it took 31 shots to get there they used Hassell and E. Jones against him mixed in a little J Ho. All in all a good game for the Mavs against the #1 team in the early Power Rankings. Well 2 days off then its the rematch all Mavs fans have wanted sine EARLY May they travel to Oakland to take on the win less Golden State Warriors.

The Tony Romo Story.

Mavs Vs Rockets Tonight @ the AAC 7:30 ch. 21

The Mavericks take on there toughest competition this year tonight when they take on the Houston Rockets who are 3-0 on the young season. Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming are playing well in the new Rick Adelman's system they are averaging 96 points a game. The Mavs are still without Eric Dampier so expect the Mavs to get killed on the glass again. This game will be the next big test for the new rotation of swing men (E. Jones & T. Hassell) when they try to slow down T-Mac who is averaging 32 points a game. Tune In and don't look ahead to Thursday when the Mavs travel to where it all came to a crashing halt last season Golden State.

WEEKEND RECAP AND RANT

Cowboys:

COWBOYS WIN...... 38-17
The boys went into Philly last night and took care of business with an impressive win of the falling fast Igles.

Grades:
Passing Game: B+
Romo had another Jedi game going 20-25 324yds 3td 1int

Running Game: B+
J.J and the Barbarian were solid once again, combined for 29 rushes for 113yds 2tds
Both guys caught the ball well out of the backfield 6rec 72yds

Receiving Game: B-
Aside from T.O and Witten the other Cowboy WR were nonexistent Owens 10rec 174yds 1td (this is why Dallas signed him he is still a big time wide out)Witten 3rec 77yds 1td (bloody nose no helmet, did you see how great his TD catch was. Best Cowboys tight end ever?? )

Defense Game: B+
1st play of the game Marcus Spears forces a McNabb fumble which leads to a Cowboys TD. Would have liked to seen better pass rush but they got there when it counted and pretty much held the Eagles offense at bay until garbage time. I thought the contained the Eagles best player Brian Westbrook in the 1st 3 quarters of the game which was huge he ended up with decent line for the game but most came with the game well in hand. Welcome back Anthony Henry played in limited action but was solid by keep everything in front of him and picking off another ball to give him 5 ints on the year.

Kicking Game: A
Rookie kicker Nick Folk was 5 for 5 on extra points and 1 for 1 by kicking a 22yard field goal. Punter Matt McBriar wasn’t called on much only had 2 punts for a 42.5yard average obviously out kicking his fellow Ausie Sam Rocca.

Overall Game: B+
Anytime you go into a divisional opponent’s stadium and have their fans leaving with 10 minutes left to play you have done something. Now you did that in Philly where they hate the Cowboys hate T.O. you must have really done something. The coaches had a good game plan and the Boys' took care of business giving them a 1 game lead on the Giants 2 game on the Deadskins and 4 games on the Igles. Good job guys according to all the experts you will find out what you are next weekend when you take on the Giants. More on that game in the coming days..
Dallas 38 Philadelphia 17 Box score

Mavericks:

Mavs welcomed back Josh Howard on Saturday night beating the Sacramento Kings 123-102
The Mavs are still having a problem rebounding the basketball. If wasn’t for their ridiculous shooting percentage 65.2% this game could have been another let down. But, they handled there business and had the game in hand basically by halftime. The Kings are down 2 of their starting 5 with Ron Artest suspended and Mike Bibby with a broken finger. Kings were led by Kevin Martin who had a game high 28 points. The Mavs started fast thanks mainly to little J.J Barea and Josh Howard. J-Ho is such a great asset to this team he brings toughness and all around great game to this team he should be an all-star candidate again this year. Brandon Bass had some more amazing blocks but he didn’t have as consistent game as Avery would have liked Bass was a little careless out there but he is still learning the game at this level and will be just fine. Dirk was solid as always with another quiet 24 points 7 assist he has such a sweet jump shot and his low post game is quite impressive so far this season. Mavs play the Rockets tonight at 7:30 we will be back later in the day with the preview.

College Football:

So who wants to be the #2 team in the nation now. Another crazy weekend in College Football. Especially looking at the BCS Rankings
and seeing Kansas is #4 followed by 2 more Big 12 Schools Mizzou and OU now who would have ever predicted that. Kansas beat down my Cornhuskers on Saturday by putting up 76 points and 572 total yards. Is Bill Callahan done in NU he has to be right? In other games Sooner handled Aggie 42-14 boring. Mizzou 55 Colorado 10. Texas barely beat Oklahoma ST. 38-35. Iowa St won a game beating Kansas St. 31-20. Texas Tech beat the little Baylor Bears 38 - 7.
